Wenger Wants Elite Players & He Wants Them Cheap!

Arsene Wenger used to conduct his transfers unlike others. His scouting department was highly rated and he used to get exceptional youngsters at cheap prices. See Cesc Fabregas, the one who used to play for Arsenal (not sure, if the same one plays for Barcelona). Players who were not even on other clubs’ radars.

Now Wenger is still stuck in the past while all the world has moved on. Clubs like Chelsea & AC Milan are aggressively pursuing youngsters.Wenger wants value for money but ironically he doesn’t want to spend money that an elite player will be valued at.

Wenger has got an addiction. It is something to do with finding a bargain buy.

Wenger has got an addiction. It is something to do with finding a bargain buy. It might have started of as a shrewd habit and ended up as an obsession. Arsenal got Santi Cazorla for 15 million pounds, a typical Wenger buy. That was an exception (Malaga was forced to sell to make funds due to UEFA sanctions). It made Arsene proud. For he was in Arsene’s terms an elite player and he indeed is! But he wants more of that kind. At the same price! That my friends, is not going to happen. Wenger has long been accustomed to this habit of finding bargain buys and even if he wants to he won’t be able to splash the cash or go for a kill while negotiating a deal. As we have heard, Wenger has a 70 million pound budget. I can’t see him splashing more than 25 on any player. Even 25 seems to be a stretch at this time.

I am somewaht of a fan of Arsene Wenger and I respect him even though I am a Chelsea fan. I don’t think Wenger lacks ambition given much publicised Arsenal’s long trophy drought. He did what the board thought was the best for Arsenal. But again, his youth project has failed at Arsenal or so it seems as of now. I remain impressed with his British core of young players coming through but he needs to wrap them around quality and give them time to blossom rather than shouldering all the responsibilities. Unfortunately the vice has got hold of him and like an addict it would be hard to let go!
Despite what reports suggest Wenger is more certain to walk off with likes of Ashley Williams rather than Moraoune Felliani. Does an elite player wants even to join Arsenal anymore? If Wenger doesn’t wake up from his dream, Spurs will only have to blame themselves for not sharing Champions League spoils.

Unfortunately the vice has got hold of him and like an addict it would be hard to let go!
