Jose Mourinho: Ramires Still Not Fit Enough To Start And Cahill To Be Rested

Ramires in action

Gary Cahill will not travel to Derby County for Chelsea’s upcoming clash in the Capital One Cup quarter-finals. Jose Mourinho confirmed that the England international has been rested keeping in the mind the busy festive schedule ahead. Kurt Zouma will take his place.

Mourinho also revealed that the Brazilian international Ramires is still not fully fit. Mourinho drew a parallel with Diego Costa to put his point across:

I think in this moment it’s the first time after his (Costa’s) injury that we can feel what we still don’t feel about Ramires. Ramires is being a champion: a fantastic professional. Step by step, working hard and always available for the team.

But still on the break, you can see Ramires sprint, making a movement like before, but he’s in trouble. We are giving him what time we can, 10-15 minutes off the bench, because we need him and we are waiting for him. He is not ready to start at Derby.

Ramires has been out due to various injuries since September. Although he did start against Liverpool in November, but Mourinho later revealed that he was not fully fit going into the clash. He has only started 4 games for Chelsea this season. The games are going to come thick and fast and we need a fully fit Ramires to get the maximum points available.
