Thibaut Courtois has been named Belgian Sportsman of the Year.
He has become the first footballer ever to win the award, considered the most prestigious accolade in Belgian sport, which has been running since 1967.
Courtois spent three years at Spanish club Atletico Madrid on loan from Chelsea. Jose Mourinho decided to bring him back to Stamford Bridge at the start of this season and he quickly established himself as the No. 1 ahead of club-legend Petr Cech.
The Belgian shot-stopper won Europa League in his first season with Atletico Madrid. In his second season, he helped Atletico to Super Cup and Copa Del Rey downing Chelsea and Real Madrid respectively in the finals. While last season he ended up as a La Liga winner and narrowly missed winning the Champions League.
Let’s hope the trophies continue to come for the Belgian who is tipped to become the best goalkeeper in the world.
Eden Hazard finished fifth in the voting, and as the second footballer in the top five.
